A second child was killed in Juarez in the same week. Chihuahua state police said a 6-year-old boy was shot in the head and died Thursday night in Juarez.

Mexican authorities investigated the child’s death on Especialdades on Americas Avenue at around 11:40 p.m. Thursday.

Authorities are looking into the possibility that the boy is a victim of the ongoing drug violence in Mexico.

On Nov. 13, 7-year old Raul Rameriz was gunned down along with his father 35-year-old Raul Rameriz Alverado. Rameriz lived with relatives in El Paso and attended Glen Gove Elementary School.

More than 2,200 people have been killed this year in the ongoing war between drug cartels in Juárez.

Officiasl are hoping a new crime-fighting program will help curb those numbers. Juarez will soon get a Crime Stoppers program, the mayor of the city announced. The program is set to start in December, but no rewards will be offered.
