Contract Extended In Case Against Gilbert Sanchez

Posted: 8:15 pm MST November 16, 2009Updated: 8:31 pm MST November 16, 2009

County commissioners extend a contract with the attorney representing District Clerk Gilbert Sanchez.

Sanchez is facing two lawsuits from former employees.

One of them is from Jacqueline Borunda who, as KFOX reported, was convicted for prostitution and arrested for violating her probation by taking a business trip with Sanchez.

County commissioners said they hired outside representation for Sanchez because of the possibility of a conflict of interest.

Commissioner Anna Perez said, “Those situations come up when there is a conflict in representing both the county and the elected official, and it seems apparent that there is."

Perez said the attorney is hired at a special county rate rather than the normal rate.
