The seven-year-old who was gunned down in Juarez was a third-grader at Glen Cove Elementary in East El Paso.

On Monday, school administrators had the difficult task of notifying his third grade class and their parents about his death.

The news of the shooting death of the 7-year-old Glen Cove Elementary student came as a shock for some of the parents.

"Just to know that my daughter knew him and what happened to him is very sad to know," said Jessica Khnaizir.

Khnaizir said she can't imagine having to explain the death of a classmate to her child.

As KFOX reported 7-year-old Raul Ramirez-Ramirez was riding in a truck with his father when the two were gunned down on Friday in Juarez.

Ramirez-Ramirez had just moved to El Paso and it was his first semester at Glen Cove.

Armando Meza said his third grade son remembers playing with Ramirez-Ramirez.

"I would let them know to remember the good times, everything he could remember about him and keep him in his mind," said Meza.

Meza said the news is hard even for him to comprehend, he can't imagine how the victim's classmates feel.

"It's a shock to know that somebody that young was not able to live out their life, where they could have had a possible great future a head of them," said Meza.

Grief councilors will be on site all week at Glen Cove for students who want to talk.
