EL PASO, Texas -- After serving the El Paso community for 50 years, El Paso Children’s Day Care is closed. KFOX learned that the day care closed on Oct. 12,2009, just 10 days after the YWCA El Paso stepped in to help the cash-strapped center.A lawyer for El Paso Children’s Day Care, Mike Milligan, told KFOX that there wasn’t enough money, even with the help of the YWCA.When KFOX crews visited the day care at 510 S. Oregon Friday, they found the doors locked and a notice to pay a water bill on the door.In September leaders for the center said it had become a victim of the economy and did not have enough money to operate.Milligan told KFOX the center has already sold some of its assets, like cars. He said El Paso Children’s Day Care will also sell the building where the day care operated. Proceeds will be used to pay off debt and anything left over will go to charity, Milligan said.
