EL PASO, Texas -- Kobe Steak and Seafood House is billed as one of the best fine dining eateries in El Paso. But according to one man, the decor, service and food doesn't match how the owner treats its employees.Lloyd Skeen started working as a dish washer and prep cook about a month ago at Kobe Steak and Seafood House."Three weeks have gone by, and I still haven't received any money," said Skeen.Skeen then approached the owner, Joe Fernandez, about the pay problem."'Am I going to get paid?' He says, 'I'll go ahead and take care of you.' He comes up to me and he just gives me $100 bill, and then after that he said, 'Here's $20 extra from my personal use for you helping me out,'" he said.Skeen said a red flag immediately shot up, but in and out of work for the last year, he needed the money. Then last week, he got paid again -- this time with a handwritten check."I go and try and cash it and they tell me there is insufficient funds in the bank," Skeen told KFOX.He held on to the check to try again the next day."And I go on Thursday, same thing, insufficient funds, I go on Friday, insufficient funds, I go on Saturday, insufficient funds," said Skeen.KFOX called Kobe Steak and Seafood House and then sent a crew to the restaurant to try and talk to the owner Joe Fernandez, or even just a manager. The crew was told that Fernandez was in Juarez and was unavailable, and the manager was out running errands."I'm very upset, because I have bills to pay just like everybody else, I'm getting termination notices in the mail and I hate to see them," said Skeen. "I got the money right here in my hands, I just can't cash the check and I need to pay my bills."After hearing the manager was running errands, the crew left a business card and told the employees there to have the manager call them. No phone calls were ever returned.
