Police: Men Arrested After Reporting Armed Robbery

Two Las Cruces men were accused of reporting a fake armed robbery at the fast food restaurant where they worked.

Thomas C. Pacheco, 30, and Angel A. Rodriguez-Segura, 21, were charged Friday with one count each of embezzlement and one count each of conspiracy.

Around 4 a.m., police said, an armed robbery was reported at the Whataburger restaurant at 2460 N. Main St. Rodriguez-Segura told officers a heavyset man with a handgun forced his way into the restaurant and stole money from the business.

After investigation, police determined Pacheco and Rodriguez-Segura staged the incident. Both had the claimed stolen cash, police said.

The investigation is ongoing and additional charges against the two are pending.
