EL PASO, Texas -- FOR RESULTS CLICK ON THE LINKS ON THE SIDE OF THIS PAGE.It was Election Day Tuesday throughout the state of Texas, as voters took to the polls to vote on 11 different propositions."I think it is very important to get out and to vote and to have a voice," said Angela Feldt, of West El Paso. However, only some decided to actually make their voices heard as. Many had three propositions in mind, which all subsequently passed."One that I thought was important for our community was the one regarding eminent domain," said Stan Okies, of West El Paso.Okies is referring to Proposition 11 which will ban government from using eminent domain to take someone's land just to increase the tax base."Basically, it's a way to steal somebody's property to increase tax revenue for whatever government entity that wants to do that," said Bryan Marushich, of Central El Paso.Proposition 8 was another high-profile proposition. It will authorize the state to give money and property to establish and operate veterans’ hospitals. But the most talked about was Proposition 4, which will establish a National Research University Fund that would give millions of dollars to research schools, including UTEP. The intention of the proposition is eventually to put state schools in tier one status."Tier one status pretty much brings a lot of national recognition. Of course it means a lot more expenditures in research, so a lot more of our students will have the opportunity to get involved in research,” said Alejandro Munoz, UTEP’s student government president.
