Crime Stoppers Seeks Man In 'Scream' Mask

A man who police say dressed up as the villain in "Scream" assaulted an Anthony woman on Oct. 31, and drove off with her vehicle, is being sought.

The incident happened near the intersection of First Street and Anthony Drive.

The victim, who works for Great American Pizza, was in her red Dodge Durango and parked at the intersection selling pizzas from her vehicle when the suspect approached and demanded money, police said. The man then began to assault the woman who fought him off and ran across the street to call 911, police said. The suspect drove off in the woman’s vehicle, which was later recovered by sheriff’s deputies, police said.

The suspect was described as being approximately 5-feet-5-inches tall, and was wearing a black sweatshirt and brown sweat pants with a black stripe. He also wore Nike tennis shoes and a face mask that resembled the villain from the movie “Scream.”

Sheriff’s investigators have reason to believe that the suspect may still be in the Anthony, N.M., area.

If you have any information regarding this incident, or any other crimes, you can call Las Cruces Crime Stoppers at 526-8000 or outside the Las Cruces area at 1-800-897-2746.

The Crime Stoppers number is operational 24 hours a day and you do not have to give your name to collect a reward.
