EL PASO, Texas -- Some residents in Canutillo want to see a nightclub shut its doors, as it sits just feet away from homes, schools and day cares.

Malibu Discoteque in the heart of Canutillo sits quietly on Mondays, but some residents say quiet is the last word they would use when it comes to weekends.

"Oh God, it's really, really noisy," said Maria Madrigal, who lives directly behind Malibu. "I hate it. I hate it because I have to shut down the windows, close my doors, and I just can't sleep, can't sleep."

Madrigal believes Malibu Discoteque is in a bad location, and she agrees with this petition now circulating in Canutillo, that calls on county leaders to prevent alcoholic beverages from being sold near residential areas.

"It's dangerous, because their is a lot of kids here, we have a school down the block, and I think they should just change it," Madrigal told KFOX.

"To tell you the truth, it doesn't really bother me," said Eloina May, owner of Eloina Floral Design across the street from Malibu.

She said neighbors are just making noise about the club noise.

"The noise? We don't worry. There is hardly no noise, you know, we make more noise in our houses sometimes then what the club will bring in," said May.

May also told KFOX there is another good reason to keep the club around.

"I'm pretty sure that some of the taxes will stay with us in our little, little town, which we need a lot of improvement in our hometown."

Some of the residents who are behind the petition are the same people who were able to successfully push for a sexually oriented business ordinance, closing down the Pegasus Nightclub located on the same property.
