Sheriff Wiles Comments On Clerk's Prostitution Arrest

Posted: 1:30 pm MST November 2, 2009Updated: 3:02 pm MST November 2, 2009

El Paso County Sheriff Richard Wiles released a statement Monday regarding the arrest of a clerk in his office.

David Herrera, 25, was arrested by the El Paso Police Department Friday and charged with prostitution, possession of marijuana and traffic tickets after allegedly propositioning an undercover police officer.

"Clearly, the alleged conduct of Mr. Herrera is unacceptable and incompatible with the professional standards set for members of the Sheriff’s Office and I am disappointed, to say the least," Wiles said. "These allegations would result in termination of Mr. Herrera’s employment. However, I have received information of his intention to resign from the Sheriff’s Office effective immediately.”

A press release showed Herrera was hired in January 2009 as an entry-level clerk. The sheriff said a background check of Herrera did not show anything out of the ordinary. Wiles said Herrera's employment was above average.
