Local Dentist Offers Cash For Candy

You've heard of cash for clunkers, but how about cash for candy? One local dentist is doing just that to keep children's teeth cavity-free after Halloween.

Todd Kuhlhoff and his son came to Eastside Dental Care Sunday for Dr. Paul Ro's cash for candy program.

"Oh, he's all for it. He definitely was excited about it. Especially we told him a dollar a pound, so he definitely for that," said Kuhlhoff.

So little Kuhlhoff instead of eating a pay day candy bar, gets a $6 pay day in his hands.

"I don't think there is any good reason for kids to eat that much candy when they're done trick or treating," said Ro.

This is the third year Eastside Dental Care has put on the promotion, with the goal of keeping kids out of the dentist chair.

"Obviously a lot of tooth decay which is really the big thing here. I think everything in moderation," Ro told KFOX.

Ro and the staff donate all the candy to the Wounded Warriors program at Ft. Bliss, which helps soldiers heal after severe injuries.

"Everyone benefits from it, and we love to do things for the community," said Ro.

And he has a lofty goal this year, hoping to get there one pound of candy at a time.

"Last year we collected 250 pounds and hopefully this year we can double that," he said.

If you or your child has leftover candy from this year's trick or treating, you can head to the Eastside Dental Care all week long for the cash for candy program.
