Paranormal Activity Surfaces In El Paso

El Paso has a rich and deep history of more than 400 years. Lots of life and lots of death -- and there are some who believe many places in the Sun City are haunted by those who once called the Borderland their home.

"El Paso is, I would like to consider, one of the most haunted cities in the Southwest," said Henry Flores, the founder of the Paso Del Norte Paranormal Society. "We're kind of neck and neck, I'd like to consider, with place like New Orleans, Santa Fe, maybe even some cities on the East Coast."

KFOX interviewed Flores in the basement of the Portales Milling Warehouse in the historic Magoffin neighborhood.

"The workers here, they say that they hear a lady screaming, a man working with them pushing boxes. Some kind of replies, full body apparitions of black shadow figures right in front of them," said Flores.

Before the ghost hunting got started, KFOX weekend anchor Daniel Novick asked Flores about the spirit in the basement where the interview was being conducted.

"That it's a lady that's in distress here. We've left our audio recorders here overnight and we've captured that, and we want to see if we capture that again. Part is that it happened," said Flores.

Moments later, a sound at the other end of the basement was heard. "Is that you that I was talking about?" Flores said into the darkness. "I didn't mean any disrespect."

And with that, the interview in the basement was over.

The crew geared up, using a K2 meter that measures electromagnetic activity, an ambient temperature gauge, as spirits are said to use heat and miracle ears to pick up even the faintest of sounds.

The crew begins the investigation upstairs in the warehouse: KFOX weekend anchor Daniel Novick, KFOX photojournalist Joe Najera, and ghost hunters Veronica, Henry and another Daniel.

It didn't take long for something to happen.

"I hear some action there," Flores said as a sound was made in the distance in the warehouse. "Was that you over there making that noise?"

Flores runs an EVP session, short for electronic voice phenomenon, where he tries to talk to the spirit.

"I heard something right, right on that mattress, it was either that mattress or right behind it," said Novick.

The crew goes up to the balcony looking over the warehouse floor for a better look. After more than half an hour of attempts to make contact, the group gets its first sign.

"The temperature right around us right here is 78 degrees. If we go two feet away, it's 80. Now, logic tells us that heat rises, but it drops down to 71 right above us," said Daniel

Spirits take the heat out of a spot to use as energy to manifest, and this spirit is right above the group.

"Did you hear that? Off to the left," as Novick looked into the darkness.

Over the course of the next seven minutes, the group had multiple contacts with the spirit.

"Do you hear that thumping?" said Daniel. "Yeah," the entire group responded.

"What the hell?" said Veronica as another sound on the roof was made. "What is that?"

"Is that you?" said Flores. "Somebody is walking," said Veronica.

The spirit clearly liked some more than others.

"Is there five children?" said Veronica.

Veronica tried multiple times to get in contact with this spirit, as did Flores, but there was no response.

Yet every time Daniel said something, the spirit seemed to respond.

"If you are not allowed in this place, knock two times like this," said Daniel. Then a double knock was heard overhead. "Oh man."

Daniel tried contacting the spirit again.

"Are you a good spirit?" said Daniel, followed by two loud knocks.

"If it's two knocks, than that's a no," said Flores.

So it's not a good spirit, and that's the crew's cue to call it quits and head downstairs, back into the basement where KFOX interviewed Flores.

And that's when it really got weird for Novick.

Daniel tries an EVP session, as my right hand continues to feel a constant cold and burning sensation.

"Is there a reason why you keep touching him?" said Daniel.

With no response, Flores recommends Novick try talking to the spirit.

"Do you know any of my family, from around the turn of the century, from around 1900?" said Novick "K2 went up?" said Henry.

"Do you know any Novicks?" said Novick. The K2 lights up again.

"If you knew my family, the Novicks, give me a sign, touch my hand." said Novick. "Oh my God, it's like a wave of cold over my knuckles."

"We have seen and felt and touched and experienced so many things that we can prove wrong with evidence that we have, that there is paranormal activity here in El Paso," said Flores.
