El Paso County Sheriff's deputies arrived at Loop 375 southbound near mile post 33 Thursday around 5:15 p.m. where a man was found unresponsive lying on the median with no signs of life, said spokesman deputy Jesse Tovar.

Special Traffic Investigators (STI) were at the scene to investigate the incident. Several witnesses at the scene said 26-year-old Zackery Sowell of Chaparral, N.M., was attempting to cross the southbound lanes of Loop 375 when he was struck by a gold 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer.

Sowell died at the scene as a result of his injuries.

Authorities told KFOX Sowell might have intentionally put himself on the road challenging traffic.

The 26-year-old driver of the Chevrolet Trailblazer will not be face charges, said deputies.
