Resident: Sundance Apartments Won't Turn On Heat

Mother and wife Kim was doing everything to keep her family warm Thursday, after she said the management at Sundance Apartments would not turn on her heat despite the frigid temperatures.

"Basically, we have you know no heat in the house,” Kim said. "We're having to keep at least three to four blankets at night just to keep warm up here."

She said management told them there was nothing they could do.

"[The said] it wasn't going to be turned on because maintenance was on vacation," Kim said.

So in the meantime Kim is turning to other sources of heat.

"I've had to run the oven on about 350 to 400 degrees, even when I'm not cooking anything, just to keep it warm downstairs," Kim said.

It's something that is dangerous, but she says she has to.

"This morning we woke up and it was about 42 degrees, according to the thermometer in the house," she said.

KFOX reporter Derek Shore contacted Sundance Apartments management. They confirmed the vacation story, and they stressed how important it was that the heaters be inspected before turned on.

“Heating at our property is not yet on due to the fact that our licensed and insured gas inspector, who we have used for the past 20 years, is not attainable until Monday morning. He personally checks each and every heater to test for carbon monoxide which is necessary with gas heating. This is a safety issue and not a comfort issue,” their statement read in part.

So it appears for now Kim and her young son will wait.

"I'm concerned about my son's health, first and foremost, because I've been in and out of the doctor with him as it is," Kim said.
