BP: Subject Entered US Illegally Before Being Captured

U.S. Border Patrol agents in Fort Hancock arrested four individuals who they said entered the United States illegally Sunday, including one man wanted by local authorities on a charge of escaping from a halfway house.

BP officials told KFOX after the arrests, three of the individuals admitted to being citizens of Mexico while 33-year-old Roman Eduardo Chavez claimed to be a United States citizen. Agents said they came across footprints of four individuals who had crossed the Rio Grande illegally into the U.S. approximately seven miles east of the Fort Hancock Port of Entry. When the agents caught up to them, the individuals tried running away from them. All four were taken into custody. A criminal and immigration data base, confirmed Chavez had a criminal history involving possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. Chavez was being sought by the U.S. Marshall’s Office for having escaped from a Halfway House in El Paso.
