In district five, Gil Jones has sat on city council for the last four years and remains confident of his work.

“We've included new parks, made a lot of road improvements, made a lot of commitments to people in district five and throughout the city," said Jones.

But his opponent thinks he can speak louder for those in northeast Las Cruces.

“I think I'll bring the interest of the people into the office, I've been listening to a lot of people in our district and they don't think they've had good representation the last four years and that's what I want to do," said Gill Sorg who is running against Jones in District five.

In district six, the quickly growing Sonoma Ranch area, incumbent Sharon Thomas feels one of her biggest strengths is her focus groups.

“My goal has been to bring in and have a broader constituency,” said Thomas. “So I have lots of groups in my district that work on various issues."

Thomas’s opponent Jim Harbison said he's a budget guy and has plenty of experience to make some necessary changes.

“I'm concerned that we don't do the proper cost benefit analysis on some of the projects we do so,” said Harbison. “So I think I'd take a more common sense approach on how we prioritize our budget."

In district three the race is between Dolores Archuleta and Olga Pedroza, a race of experience.

“I got elected the first time in 2001 and re-elected in 2005, I have served 2 terms as mayor pro-tem so I bring a lot of experience," said Archuleta.

“I do have the skills of a lawyer, I can read contracts, I can analyze situations, I can do that and I don't think Ms. Archuleta does," said Pedroza.
