Neighbors Complain About Foreclosed Home In Neighborhood

Some Lower Valley residents say a foreclosed property in their neighborhood is not only an eyesore but it's an invitation for vandalism and they said they've already had cases of it.

Now, they want the owner of the property located at 9222 Roseway in the Lower Valley to do something about it. The surprising thing is that the owner is the city of El Paso.

Neighbors said the home looks abandoned and the previous owner hangs out around the property.

Belinda Lozano said she and her mom are frustrated as they see the house next door deteriorate.

"Now, the city has taken over but they haven't anything about the debris," said Lozano.

The city took possession of the property at 9222 Roseway in March 2008 because of unpaid property taxes. But the biggest concern Lozano has is that the previous owner has never left the home.

"He is living in this vehicle. He's leaving feces behind. He is living out of the vehicle. They have not removed him from the house," said Lozano.

She said he somehow has access to the house and he is seen going in and out. She said she and her mother have called the city several times to complain. KFOX talked to the director of development services, Victor Torres, and asked why it's taken so long to better secure the house.

"We had not received any complaints of vandalism until just recently and now that we have that information we can take action. Typically we will look at the property, if there's no vandalism, we will take limited action," said Torres.

But he's taking action now. Torres said he already put in an order to the Streets Department to clean up and board up the home.

"I want the city to clean it up for starters. He needs to be removed," said Lozano.

Torres said he expects the property to be cleaned up and boarded up within the next few days.
