Economy Forces El Paso Doctor Out Of Retirement

Dr. Richard Nevins was an optometrist for 25 years in El Paso and was retired for the last seven.

"Had to come back to work because of the economy. So I thought I was retired for my lifetime, but it didn't turn out that way," said Nevins.

His 401K and other investments failed him.

"I had a lot of good investments that were keeping me real supported for all the time, and I put all my money into these investments. Then the investments went south," Nevins told KFOX.

So he's now back in the office and back to work.

"I love what I'm doing, I love being an optometrist, but I also love playing golf," he said.

And he's not your average optometrist. Nevins has Elvis Presley gold records, Presley music playing and posters of the King of Rock and Roll next to posters about eye care.

"I'm excited about coming back. I'm excited about seeing patients again, it's a lot of fun back getting into the swing of things," said Nevins.

And he thinks he'll be dancing and doctoring for a while.

"I tend to think in my case, I'll probably be here for maybe another 10 years," he said.

You can find Nevin's office at Sunland Park Mall, next to Eyemasters.
