EL PASO, Texas -- Some are keeping a watchful eye on the weather as Tropical Storm Olaf may dump tropical moisture and heavy rains in the El Paso and Las Cruces areas. It’s Friday and the sun is setting on the workweek. Just as the tones of pink and gold made their way across the sky. On Friday, members of the Snook family were spending time on the swings at Mission Hills Park before a busy weekend.“We're going to take in the air show with our baby because she loves airplanes and then we're going to head out to the University of Houston and UTEP game," said Dave Snook. There are a lot of activities scheduled for this weekend including the University of Texas at El Paso homecoming along with the Amigo Airsho. But while the sky was calm Friday, a storm was brewing to the west of the Borderland and it could bring heavy rain to the area this weekend.“I didn't know it was going to rain tomorrow," said Sarah Snook.Tropical storm Olaf, churning in the eastern Pacific Ocean could push tropical moisture into the Borderland. It could lead to heavy rains and flooding staring Saturday evening through Sunday afternoon. With that in mind, the El Paso Fire Department is sending this message to drivers: turn around, don't drown."Last time we had heavy rains and the hail here in El Paso, we had nine people that we had to rescue from their vehicles who were trying to navigate through flooded intersections," said Lt. Mario Hernandez with the El Paso Fire Department. As for the Snook family, it may not be enough to keep them inside. "We might go, we might brave it," said Sarah Snook.
