TX Residents Drive-Through For Flu Shot

Traffic is backed up in Texas as people rush to get their flu shots.

The city of Port Arthur hosted its third annual drive-through flu shot event.

The health department said the goal is to get at least 60 percent of the population immunized.

It started out as a drill but has turned out to be a big hit. "Our patients came through on our first year, and they talked about how they really enjoyed it. It was such a good service, and very comfortable from their car. So we said we'll do it every year," said Judith Smith, the Port Arthur assistant director of health.

The department prepared 5,000 shots for the event, and patients were either charged $10 or billed Medicare. Those without coverage or money were not turned away.
