LAS CRUCES, N.M. -- Hundreds of New Mexico State University students have hit the student union in the past two days hoping to land a job, or at least an internship.

Career Services, which put on the fair, said 139 employers came to this year's fair, and while that is number is lower than previous years by about 23 percent, they said it's expected because of the country's economic struggle.

One way that was evident, KFOX was told NMSU job fairs always have a good showing from auto-makers like General Motors and Ford, but this year those companies were nowhere to be found.

However, there was no lack in federal agencies such as the FBI and CIA.

There was also a continued showing from companies in the oil industry such as Exxon and Conoco-Phillips.

An estimated 1,500 students took a walk through this semester's job fair.

“I made a couple of good contacts yesterday,” said NMSU Senior Mark Castelo. “I had a couple of call backs for interviews so I'm kind of coming back again to see what we can do.”
