First Day Of Fall Feels Like It In The Borderland

Posted: 8:21 pm MDT September 22, 2009Updated: 9:46 pm MDT September 22, 2009

Cooler temperatures, discolored leaves and the people walking around in sweaters all marked the signs that fall is here.

Fall officially starts Tuesday night and people in El Paso said they are enjoying the cooler temperatures.

"It's awesome, I've been waiting six months for it, so I'm excited,” said Sarah Ontiveros.

A cold front came through El Paso and temperatures only warmed up to 73 degrees, which is 13 degrees below our average of 86 degrees. Overnight temperatures dipped down to 55 degrees, which is seven degrees below average. Usually El Paso and Las Cruces don’t see highs of 73 degrees until October.

In Las Cruces, the high temperature hit 72 degrees Tuesday with a low of 52, also below average.

"It was nice, it was surprising,” said Michael Ontiveros.

Forecasters are predicting temperatures Tuesday night to dip into the 50s and Wednesday warm up into the mid 70s.
