Saturday Storm Causes Damage In Anthony, Texas

A massive storm that swept from Las Cruces to Fabens on Saturday night caused some serious damage in Anthony, Texas, and some residents want their city government to do something about it.

Gary Hall said for the 30 years he's lived in his Anthony home, he's had flooding problems.

"Every time it rains, the mayor is aware of the problem of my house flooding, especially the garage and the problem I have with the dirt coming in through the front gate, the back gate," said Hall.

And the next-day storm routine for Hall is the same -- pumping water and cleaning mud out of his garage.

"I haven't gotten underneath my house yet to see what damage I have from the water under it, because I know it is full of water," hall told KFOX.

Hall said he went to Anthony Mayor Art Franco about the problem.

"'I demand that you do something about this,' I said, 'If you don't, I'm going to get an attorney.' The mayor looked at me and he says, 'Well, look in the yellow pages.' He walked back in the house and slammed the door," he said.

"I just didn't feel that I needed to get into a shouting match with him, and I just listened to him and when he finished, I just said, 'Well, I guess you can find yourself an attorney in the yellow pages,'" said Franco.

Franco told KFOX the city has built some flood controls in Hall's area to try and prevent these issues.

"We built it intentionally like that to help him out, but unless we build up a wall around his house big enough to keep it out, but that's not feasible," said Hall. "It's unfortunate we had quite a bit of rain and quite a bit of hail in a very short time."

Franco said the storm last night flooded two other homes in Anthony, but he considers his city lucky compared to some of the issues other small towns are dealing with every time it rains like in Socorro or Cinton.
