LAS CRUCES, N.M. -- It's an open desert just west of Anthony, N.M. Marlene Ceniceros and her husband, David, like to go out there to go four-wheeling but, last week they came across something unusual.

“The first one we saw we were kind of like, ‘oh it's just a dead cow, it's the desert, that happens,’ but then we saw one after another,” said Ceniceros.

The cows are all at different levels of decomposition so it’s hard to say how many are out there, but whether it be bones only, or the whole body, KFOX can report there are signs of what were at least 20 of them. Something that's interesting about the area is you'll notice there is a lot of trash where people have clearly dumped their garbage as well as a lot of bullet shells. Perhaps that has something to do with why the cattle are dead, but then again maybe it's natural causes such as lack of water, a weed they're eating, or even coyotes.

Whether they died of natural causes, they shouldn't just thrown out in the desert,” said Ceniceros. “They stink and as well as the cows, there is just a ton of trash everywhere. This isn't right, something needs to be done.”

What’s even more unusual it is KFOX and Ceniceros stumbled upon a skull of a cow that was coming out of a black plastic bag.

There was even a leg from a cow that not only looked fresh, but there was nothing else around it. No signs of any other remains. Ceniceros has one idea of what might be going on.

“It could be somebody shooting them, or it could be some kind of devil worshipers that were sacrificing them for I don't know what,” said Ceniceros. “We just got really scared and left.”
