EL PASO, Texas -- The man who barricaded himself inside a northeast motel Monday morning surrendered to deputies, officials said.The standoff happened Monday around 11:55 a.m. after deputies attempted to serve three felony warrants to 34-year-old Gilberto Garcia Jr. at the Beverly Crest Inn located at 8709 Dyer Drive.Officials told KFOX Garcia was armed with a knife and had barricaded himself with his mother in the room, but the mother later came out.El Paso County Sheriff's Office spokesman Jesse Tovar said Garcia is a schizophrenic and had not taken his medication for some time.Authorities negotiated with the man to come out of the locked bathroom and surrender. Deputies said they also had to use a Taser gun on Garcia.
