Newborn Wrapped In Blanket Abandoned At Local Fire Station

Firefighters made a startling discovery late Sunday evening; a baby girl with the umbilical cord still attached was left outside a west side station.

It was around 8:30 p.m. Sunday when firefighters at station 22 on North Mesa heard the doorbell, went outside and didn’t see anyone. But on second glance they noticed a small bundle on a chair next to the door; it was a baby girl about 2 days old, wrapped in a blanket. Paramedics examined her and she appeared to be healthy.

She was immediately transported to Providence Memorial Hospital.

Under the Texas Safe Haven Law, parents can anonymously drop off a newborn at designated “safe haven” locations, such as a hospital or a fire station where emergency medical services can be provided. However, the parent is supposed to physically give the baby to someone.
