LAS CRUCES, N.M. -- There are several ways to describe the traffic near Telshor Ave. and Lohman Blvd., other than bumper-to-bumper.“Horrible,” said Angelica Quinonez, of the East Mesa.“Real slow, it's a headache,” said New Mexico State University student Daniel Pavletich.Rachel Orozco of south Las Cruces would say, “Horrible pain, horrible pain.”Workers said it is especially painful when the closures keep them from getting to work on time.“Even though I plan ahead to make more time for work, I end up being late and I get in trouble for it,” said Quinonez, who works at Golden Corral.Orozco who is a manager at Target said her staff has the same problem.“A lot of our team members that work there are running late to work because of it,” she said. It's not only causing employees to be late, but it's also hurting businesses.“They even closed our entrance for a couple of days,” said Quinonez.“Our guests are complaining because, I mean, they’re not going to wait in line to shop with us,” said Orozco. “So it's actually hurting our business too.”Even NMSU students are feeling the pain from the construction.“Sucks in the morning getting to class,” said Pavletich. “I have to leave two hours early.”To top it all off the construction may also be posing a danger to drivers.“My friend got into an accident up here because the cars ran into each other,” said Quinonez. And it doesn’t seem as if the construction will be ending anytime soon, especially since two more lanes will be closing Tuesday.“Oh my gosh, that's horrible and tomorrow everyone is back to school and back to work,” said Quinonez. One of the two lanes closing will be Telshor Boulevard north of Lohman Avenue on the southbound outside lane. The other will be Lohman Avenue’s westbound outside lane starting near Albertsons grocery store and going past Burger King.“Maybe during the summer time would've been a better time, but I think it's just too much of a pain to be doing it right now,” said Orozco.
