Texas Has $2 Billion In Unclaimed Property

EL PASO, Texas -- With just a few key strokes and the click of a mouse, the state of Texas allows citizens to search for money they may be owed. In total about $2 billion dollars in unclaimed money sits waiting for about 200,000 Texans to claim.KFOX reporter Derek Shore hit the streets allowing El Pasoans to search the state comptroller’s Web site to check for unclaimed cash."So what did you just find out right now?” Shore asked.“I just found out that my cousin in Austin, Texas, is owed some money. It looks like $600,” said Marie Eichelmann, of the Upper Vallery.Another El Pasoan, Cecilia Fischer, found out her husband had about $75 waiting for him since 1991."So are you going to go claim that money?” Shore asked Fischer.“Haha, yes,” Fischer said.“Did you ever think that money was just sitting out there without you knowing it?” Shore asked.“No,” Fischer answered.KFOX reporter and anchor Daniel Novick found out he was owed nearly $200 from a bank. KFOX is owed about $300.The money is ready to be claimed. The Web site to claim the money is www.claimittexas.org.
