New Mexico State University will receive a check on Monday for $88,000 from the El Paso Electric Company after installing energy efficient appliances.

NMSU officials said nearly 300 energy-efficient evaporative air conditioners were installed in student family housing and apartment communities around campus. The air conditioners replaced older air conditioners that were not as energy efficient.

NMSU associate director of Housing and Residential Life, Greg Block, said about 3,000 energy-efficient appliances have been installed in total.

"This is part of a continuing energy-efficient plan that has been in the works for the past three years, said Julie Weber, director of NMSU's Housing and Residential Life in a press release from NMSU.
