New Mexico State Police have recovered the body of 7-year-old Liesha Quinonez, of El Paso, Texas.

According to police, Quinonez went missing while swimming in the Rio Grande River at Leasburg State Park.

Police said Quinonez was playing in the sand bar, in the middle of the Rio Grande with other children just before 6 p.m. Investigators said the other children turned away for a moment, and when they looked back they saw she was missing.

Several law enforcement agencies -- including the New Mexico State Police, Dona Ana Sheriff’s Department, United States Border Patrol, Las Cruces Fire Department, American Medical Response, Radium Springs Voluntary Fire Department and State Parks Search and Rescue -- all worked together to look for the girl.

Divers with the State Police Dive Team recovered Quinonez’s body just after 11 p.m. about 50 yards from where she was last seen.
