Sun Bowl Stadium is getting a $500,000 upgrade.

New turf is being installed with the latest technology where logos and colors appear sharper and brighter.

Beyond looks it should help ward off some injuries too.

The University of Texas at El Paso's Athletic Department was planning on replacing the field next spring but decided to go ahead and do it now.

"We had a lot of injuries last year, and not all because of the field. But the field was worn, and we felt it was time to replace it,” said UTEP’s athletic director Bob Stull.

The company that's installing the turf is also working on the Dallas Cowboys' new stadium.
