SUNLAND PARK, N.M. -- Authorities have released new information regarding a woman's body that was found in the desert about one-quarter of a mile behind an elementary school in Santa Teresa, N.M., Friday morning.

The woman's age matches that of a missing El Paso woman, said Chris Mears, spokesman for the El Paso Police Department. He also said foul play was likely involved.

Authorities have not determined if the woman who was found is 54-year-old Gloria Marmolejo. Marmolejo went missing Saturday after she told family members she was going to the grocery store and a family member's house.

"Again, it may not be her," said Mears. "We don't know at this point. That is why we're doing a joint investigation with Dona Ana County Sheriffs investigators until we can determine who this victim is."

KFOX found out a family member of Marmolejo was informed about Friday morning's discovery.

The unidentified woman's body was discovered by someone walking their dog at about 8 a.m.

A medical examiner has been called out to the scene to determine when the woman died.

KFOX spoke with Marmolejo's friends and former co-workers at the Texas Workforce Commission Friday. They said they hope the body that was found is not Marmolejo.

"We're very concerned about her safety," said Lorenzo Reyes. "We're very concerned about her well-being, and we're hoping and praying that she's fine. And we're going to find her soon. Everything's going to be ok."
