EL PASO, Texas -- A one-year-old northeast El Paso boy was diagnosed with Kawasaki disease which affects his heart.

Noah Saenz was hospitalized six months ago with flu-like symptoms including a prolonged high fever.

"He would cry a lot," said his mother Monica Saenz. "He was always crying. He was always cranky."

Saenz said doctors told her there was no cure, but they did offer a treatment.

"When they told me he had those heart aneurisms, and I had to inject him twice a day, that was the worst," said Saenz.

The injections contain a serum that thins Noah's blood. He writhed in fear of the pain even when his mother lifted his clothes to show KFOX the bruises.

"He hates the shots," said Saenz. "It's just very hard."

Noah must endure the shots for at least six months.

"Then from there we don't know," said Saenz. "We're hoping in those six months, he'll get better."

But a couple of months have passed, and Saenz said she does not see any improvement so far.

Friends and family are hosting a benefit car show on Sunday, which is Noah's birthday. It will be held at the Kmart on Montwood and George Dieter from noon until 5 p.m. All the proceeds will go toward an account set up to pay for Noah's medical expenses.
