Salmonella Recall In All 50 States

Posted: 5:19 pm MDT July 23, 2009Updated: 9:21 pm MDT July 23, 2009

If you've recently picked up some ground beef or romaine lettuce from the store you may want to check it out as two separate companies have had their products test positive for salmonella.

The first recall is for ground beef that was distributed in seven states.

But KFOX recently confirmed with the New Mexico Environment Department that there was only one store in the state that carried the meat and it was in Shiprock, far from Las Cruces.

But what's still a concern is a lettuce recall. Tanimura & Antle out of Salinas, Calif., issued a voluntary recall Wednesday for 22,000 cartons of romaine lettuce.

Initially the recall was in 29 states including Texas and New Mexico but as of 3 p.m. Thursday the company has expanded that recall to all 50 states.

While the contaminated lettuce has already been pulled from store shelves it could still be in your home.

One produce manager here in Las Cruces told us KFOX what you can do if you have any doubts about your lettuce.

“Just find out where it's coming from and ask. We’ll let them know where we're getting it from and the more information we get we'll pass it on,” said David Mendoza of Save Mart.

We also called the New Mexico Environment Department but they are unaware of the recall at this time.

A representative from the El Paso Health Department said they are aware of the outbreak recall and have received no notification that El Paso is affected.
