Kern Place Neighbors Talk With Wild Cat Project Developers

Neighbors in Kern Place in west El Paso aren’t laying out the welcome mat for a new neighborhood.

"I don't like it, I wish they would leave the mountain alone," said Cindy Rowe, a neighbor in Kern Place.

Piedmont Group, LLC is proposing to build 25 – 34 homes along Crazy Cat Mountain in the area. Neighbors are concerned with the wildlife that it would disturb, drainage problems and more.

“I have cracks all throughout my house and if they start developing this, what is it going to do to our homes," Rowe said.

Thursday, project developers requested a postponement on the project from the city planning commission. They also met with neighbors at El Paso City Council Representative Ann Morgan Lilly’s office.

"I think the developers would like to work with the neighborhood association," she told KFOX.

Lilly said the meeting was civil, but neighbors were not happy with what developers were saying. A main concern was drainage.

“He says that he's putting in some drains,” said Lilly. “And he's putting in some kind of big pipe."

Lilly said she hopes the land will be deemed an open space by the city and instead turn into a biking and hiking trail.

According to the El Paso Central Appraisal District if the new homes will be worth at least $125,000 it could generate anywhere from $90 - $100,000 in tax revenue.

City representatives said developers plan to put present their project to the city planning commission on July 30th.
