Skin Cancer Cases On The Rise In El Paso

According to doctors at the Texas Oncology Center in El Paso, more people are now aware of the risks of exposure to the sun, but they are also treating more cases of skin cancer.

"Over the past 10 to 20 years, the incidents of all skin cancer are going up," said Dr. Panagiotis Valilis. "And we've seen that in El Paso."

Dr. Valilis said while most skin cancer is curable, many people still die each year from the disease.

"In most of the patients, it takes several years to spread," said Dr. Valilis. "But in about 10 to 15 percent of people, it can spread in one or two years."
