County Leaders Approve Land Buy For Northwest Annex

Right now, a judge and county constable work out of a cramped building, across the street from the El Paso County Sheriff's Office westside location in Vinton, Texas. But plans are now under way to put everyone together, along with other county services, in one big building.

On Monday, County Commissioners approved buying six acres of land in Vinton from the village for $200,000. The land is actually appraised at $315,000.

In exchange for the good deal, the county is also committing a half-million dollars from its rural parks fund to build a park in Vinton.

After the county builds the park, then the village of Vinton would take over the maintenance and supervision of the area.

County leaders have wanted to build what is being called the Northwest Annex for a long time, because of rising costs in rent.

Plus, residents will see a big time benefit.

"We may have some of our tax offices go out there, other parts of the county go out there so that constituents in that particular area don't have to travel as far as they've had to or they currently do to get some of the services that they need from the county," said Commissioner Willie Gandara Jr.

So far, all the county has done is approve the purchase of the land. The next step is actually buying the land and then creating the plans to construct the Northwest Annex.
