Canutillo Arroyo Filled With Trash Concerns Neighbors

Arroyos are supposed to be there for rainwater to safely get to the Rio Grande, but one Canutillo man says his has become a dump.

Hans Bauchmann said he has called everyone he could think of to clean up the arroyo near Second Street, but he got nowhere, and he went to KFOX for help.

"If you go to the corner of my property, it stinks, it stinks, I mean it stinks," Bauchmann told KFOX.

You can find everything from furniture to empty bottles to concrete.

"I called everybody I could think of man, and everybody is passing the buck, and ya'll is the last chance I got man," Bauchmann said.

The county provided KFOX the address of the trash-filled arroyo. We typed that into the central Appraisal District's Web site and found Paso Del Rio Developers owns the land.

KFOX met the owner, Dan Heath, who said he hasn't been to the site in a while and had no idea about the buildup of trash.

Heath promised KFOX he would go out there this week with his partner and try to fix the problem as soon as possible.

It is not a moment too soon for Bauchmann. The rats and mosquitoes the trash attracts carry diseases that endanger his health.

"I got late-stage emphysema. If I get an infection of any kind, I'm gone," said Bauchmann.
