A Vado mother is under arrest and charged wtih child abuse resulting in the death of her 1-month-old son.

Aracelia Lopez, 21, was taken into custody where she is being held under a $100,000 bond.

Dona Ana County Sheriff's deputies were called to Lopez's home Monday night after getting a call about an unresponsive child. Deputies say the infant was pronounced dead a short time later.

Lopez allegedly told investigators that she was feeding her son when he threw himself backward and hit his head on a couch armrest. Investigators questioned the story after considering the child's age and the placement of the furniture.
