EL PASO, Texas -- On the County Commissioner agenda Monday was holiday pay for employees in the County Tax Assessor’s Office. In order to meet the 2 percent budget cut, employees agreed to forgo being paid for four holidays including Labor Day.But because of vacancies in the department they went above the 2 percent budget cut requirement. Now County Tax Collector Victor Flores is asking County Commissioners to give the surplus money to his employees.Flores said, "I think that it breaks the morale of the other employees in the county when they see that the commissioner’s court allows, you know, overtime because there's a lot of departments here in this county that work overtime. And it's always been compensatory time."County Commissioner Anna Perez said, "These employees are getting eight hours less for the Labor Day week plus the three others that they gave up. So they're not getting anything more they're getting, back up to their regular pay."Commissioners decided to postpone the discussion until the budget hearing later this month.
