El Paso Man Wins Tickets To Michael Jackson's Memorial

For the Nolan family, Michael Jackson fans come in all sizes.

"We would just say turn it up, turn it up," said 8-year-old Genisis, speaking of how the family loves to blast Michael Jackson’s music.

So, as you can imagine, the family took the news of Jackson’s death pretty hard.

"Well, I was pretty heart broken, as my wife said, 'you boo-hoo-ed, like a baby,'" said Gary Nolan.

Nolan then decided to take his love for Jackson a step further. He got on his computer and entered in the lottery to win tickets to Michael Jackson's memorial in Los Angeles Tuesday.

"The register it kept saying, ‘service unavailable’ all day long. I tried one more time in the evening and I got on to register," Nolan said.

Then he got the news that he couldn't believe in the form of two e-mails.

“One said I didn't make it and then the next e-mail right below that says congratulations. I was like whooa," Nolan said.

Nolan is one of the lucky few. More than 1.6 million people registered to win tickets to the King of Pop’s memorial, but only 11,000 were handed out.

In Los Angeles Monday, fans lined up at Dodger Stadium to get their hands on their tickets. Nolan got his through an e-mail.

"I was very thrilled,” he told KFOX14.

Ticket holders got a wrist band when they pick up the tickets. Each person who won was given two tickets, and two wrist bands. The wrist bands are designed to help cut down on ticket scalping but that may not be enough.

Michael Jackson memorial tickets are a hot item on eBay. KFOX14 found people selling tickets for up to $2,500.

To enter the memorial, each person must have a ticket and a wrist band.

As for Nolan, he is not sure if we will be actually able to make the memorial but he said his ticket is not for sale. He will frame it.
