Recycling Program A Possibility In Las Cruces

Posted: 3:43 pm MDT July 5, 2009Updated: 4:26 pm MDT July 5, 2009

The Las Cruces City Council on Monday will discuss creating a regional recycling program.

The council will consider a resolution creating the program with the South Central Solid Waste Authority administering the program that would include Las Cruces and all of Dona Ana County.

The city's Utility Board last month recommended approval of the proposal to create the regional recycling program.

Right now, Las Cruces operates a voluntary recycling program. In that program, residents can recycle newspapers, corrugated cardboard, metal and aluminum cans.

If the resolution is approved, the city would sell South Central Solid Waste Authority various pieces of equipment totaling $404,000.
