FARMINGTON, N.M. -- Employees of a New Mexico town who get convicted of drunken driving will have to find another job.The city manager of Farmington, N.M., Rob Mayes, said city employees who get convicted of DWI will be fired. In an e-mail Wednesday to employees, he said a recent number of drunken driving arrests among city workers is inexcusable and that any worker convicted of DWI -- whether off-duty or on the job –would be fired.Mayes plans to issue a detailed policy and meet with employees next month to discuss it. He says the policy likely will include unpaid leave for employees accused of drunken driving pending the outcome of their court case.In the last 16 months, five Farmington firefighters, three police officers and a city inspector faced DWI charges.
