Rain Won't Spoil Downtown Street Festival, Organizers Say

Dark clouds rolled into the El Paso area Friday afternoon, dumping a small amount of rain then clearing out.

Friday night’s forecast still calls for a 40 percent chance of rain and rain a 30 percent chance of showers on the Fourth of July.

Some vendors of the Downtown Street Festival said they do not believe the rain will ruin the fun.

“El Paso, it’s a very motivated city,” said Adrian Perez, a high-end brand manager with L & F Budweiser. “They’re not afraid of a little bit of water. Actually it might be even nice. It might cool people down a bit,” he said.

Still other vendors are a little concerned.

“I think this [rain] is our main problem, “ said Andres Villalva of Lila’s Smoked Turkey Legs, a vendor at the festival. “You know this time of the year with the rain, when people don’t show up, but hopefully they will be here.”
