On a weekly basis, vector control maintains city-owned ponding area by fogging and spraying. But vector control officials said the problems lies in residential areas.

Currently, vector control officials have mapped out the county into zones. This system allows them to determine problem areas they can treat more often like a reservoir in the Upper Valley.

Jesus Ortega with vector control said the rainy days and warm temperatures are perfect elements for mosquito breeding. That's why it's important for vector crews to visit the problem areas, but at the same time continue treating other reservoir.

He said residents need to help too.

"It's basically back yards with artificial containers even the above ground swimming pools are going to give us a problem this year. So the people who have these above ground swimming pools they need to start treating them with their swimming pool materials they buy with it," said Ortega.

Health officials want to remind the public to use mosquito repellent with deet and when you're outdoors, especially when mosquitoes are more active. It's also a good idea to wear long sleeves, socks and shoes to protect yourself.
