Las Cruces police arrested a man who they say physically and sexually assaulting his girlfriend after she responded to an e-mail he sent, pretending to be another man.

David Pierre, 40, was charged with one count of kidnapping, one count of interfering with communications, two counts of battery against a household member and three counts of criminal sexual penetration.

Detectives learned that Pierre became upset at his girlfriend Wednesday evening after she responded to an e-mail he sent her, pretending to be another man. The victim told detectives that Pierre forced her to a shed at the back of the residence where she was held against her will, and physically and sexually assaulted by Pierre, said spokesman Dan Trujillo.

The woman was able to escape from Pierre Thursday morning. She then drove to the Las Cruces Police Department where she reported the incident.

Pierre was arrested Thursday morning and taken to the Dona Ana County Detention Center with bond set at $58,000.
