An Eastwood High School teacher is allegedly assaulted at the school. The allegedly incident happened on June 17.

"It involved a teacher from our understanding had some type of confrontation with two students," said El Paso Police spokesman Javier Sambrano.

KFOX was not allowed to view the police report filed by Eastwood High School staff because a minor is involved but Sambrano said the confrontation started when the male teacher was taking some items to a classroom and the two male students were in the hallway.

"During that confrontation one of the students, a 15-year-old that's 160 lbs, 5'9" tall began to start acting in what the teacher perceived in a threatening manner," said Sambrano.

Sambrano said the situation escalated and the teacher and the 15-year-old student became engaged in a physical fight. The Ysleta Teacher's Association president, Noel Candelaria, said there's always concern about teacher safety at the high school level.

"In today's society, it is a concern because we never know how students are going to react and what they have access to," said Candelaria.

Candelaria said districts should consider offering training so teachers know how to better handle a situation that could turn physical.

"I don't think overall that educators are trained properly to defense themselves when it comes to physical aggression," said Candelaria.

Sambrano said the second student was present during the confrontation but was not involved in the fight. No charges have been filed.
