Canutillo Flooding Keeps Man Up All Night

It was a sleepless night for Albert Duran in Canuitillo. The sound of rain early Tuesday morning kept him up.

"Like somebody took a machine gun or something to the roof and just going at it," said Duran, describing the sound of rain on his roof.

He said within about 30 minutes the rain made his front yard look more like a lake. KFOX14 went to his home Tuesday afternoon and still found sandbags guarding his garage.

"It crept into the garage and I've just been trying to pump it out,” Duran said.

He said pumping water out of his home is what kept him up most of the night. But he said the rain may not be the only factor contributing to the flooding. He believes his street, Laura Gale Road is a problem.

“If you see the street it goes into a slope. So when the water comes running down. It makes its way into my yard,” Duran told KFOX14.

KFOX contacted El Paso County officials to find out what could be done to remedy the problem. The station is still waiting for information.

For now, Duran said he just dreads seeing clouds.

"They were making fun of me at work, saying ‘It's going to rain.’ I go, ‘Please don't’,” said Duran.
