Stormwater System Works, El Paso Water Utilities Say

The sound of water pumps was a familiar one around El Paso Monday.

After rain fell Sunday night and into Monday, KFOX asked managers at El Paso water utilities whether the Stormwater system passed the test.

"We're really, really proud of the fact that everything went really well last night, number one because of the work our crews have done," said El Paso Water Utilities spokesperson Christina Montoya.

But that doesn't mean there was no street flooding at all. On ocotillo in the Upper Valley, water flooded the street and yards. KFOX also got snap shots of flooding on Mamie Street, Elmwood, Green Cove and Frontera.

El Paso Water Utilities said crews were busy pumping water from other streets as well, including Airway, Hughes Circle, Davenport and San Marcial.

“There was some water on some of the roads, but our roads do act as a channel that will guide that water eventually to the pump stations,” said Montoya.

Driving around the city KFOX also spotted flooding along Doniphan, water even pushed into the yards of businesses like Building Specialty.

"There are some areas in El Paso that are going to need more than just cleaning out the system they are going to need new infrastructure and Doniphan is one of them,” Montoya said.

To get sandbags, El Paso residents must now get them through El Paso water Utilities.
