EL PASO, Texas -- Planned Parenthood services will no longer be available to residents of El Paso and Sierra Blanca, officials announced Friday. At a press conference held at Planned Parenthood administrative offices located at 1801 Wyoming Ave., officials confirmed to the media all El Paso and Sierra Blanca offices would close on June 30 because of financial issues."Today, it is with deep heartfelt regret that I have to announce that Planned Parenthood Center of El Paso will close all of its care centers as of June 30, 2009," said Analinda Moreno, PPCEP interim CEO.Planned Parenthood officials told KFOX they had tried obtaining grants but it wasn't enough to keep the offices running."It was a difficult decision. Our No. 1 priority was client care, even though some of our clients may feel that... Well, I know that they're going to feel this is a big loss," Moreno said. The closure will leave over 11,000 Borderland residents looking for another place to receive health care and 87 employees looking for somewhere else to work."People that that need, seeking medical help that don't have the money to go to a doctor can just easily go here, now it's not going to be open," said one patient. The announcement comes just weeks after Planned Parenthood Center of El Paso announced that they were halting their HIV/AIDS assistance program."It's going to be harder becasue I don't even know of a good doctor that serves people with a low income," the patient said.
